GNSS Performance
Section titled “GNSS Performance”The GEOSTIX-X5 tracks GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, SBAS, and L-Band on three frequencies, with 448 channels available. The navigation update rate reaches up to 100 Hz, making it suitable for high-dynamic applications.
RTK accuracy is 6 mm + 0.5 PPM horizontal and 10 mm + 1 PPM vertical.
Physical Design
Section titled “Physical Design”The GEOSTIX-X5 shares the same housing as all GEOSTIX models: 14 cm tall, 4 cm in diameter, and 160 g. All mounting accessories and poles are fully compatible across models.
Mounting — 5/8” thread: The base of the GEOSTIX features a standard 5/8” × 11 TPI threaded socket, compatible with surveying poles, tripods, and most professional mounting accessories. This makes it straightforward to set up as a rover on a range pole or as a base station on a tripod.
Magnetic charging port: Power and data are transferred through a magnetic USB connector on the side of the unit. The GEOSTIX charges from any standard 5V USB source.
Internal battery: The unit runs on an internal LiPo cell (2600 mAh, 3.7 V, 9.6 Wh), providing up to 8 hours of autonomy.
Removable storage: A μSD card slot (supporting cards up to 32 GB, 8 GB included) allows local logging of raw GNSS data. Additionally, the mosaic-X5 module itself features its own built-in internal storage for autonomous RINEX and SBF recording, independent of the μSD card. See the GEOSTIX-X5 page for details on accessing recorded data.
Internal Antenna
Section titled “Internal Antenna”The GEOSTIX-X5 uses a custom-made multi-frequency helical antenna integrated at the top of the unit. This high-quality antenna is specifically designed to maximize tracking performance across all supported constellations and frequencies. The antenna phase center — the electrical reference point from which GNSS measurements are made — is located 17 cm from the bottom of the device (the base of the 5/8” thread).
When setting up the GEOSTIX on a pole or tripod, always measure the height to the bottom of the device and add 17 cm to obtain the correct antenna height above ground. This value must be entered in the GEOSTIX App or your data collection software to ensure accurate positioning.
Serial Number
Section titled “Serial Number”The serial number of your GEOSTIX-X5 is printed on a label located on the back of the device. It is also accessible through the GEOSTIX App.
Connectivity
Section titled “Connectivity”The GEOSTIX-X5 communicates via USB, Bluetooth 4.2 (both BLE and BR/EDR), and Wi-Fi 5. When connected via the magnetic USB cable, the mosaic-X5 module also provides an Ethernet-over-USB interface, giving access to the Septentrio web configuration interface at 192.168.3.1. Input data format: RTCM v3.x for RTK corrections. Output formats include NMEA, Septentrio proprietary messages, RTCM v3.x, and RINEX v3.x.
